David M. Johnson practices in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he has specialized in family law for over 34 years. Mr. Johnson graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1971. He received his law degree from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1976. He was admitted to the bar in Missouri in 1976 and in Colorado in 1982.

Mr. Johnson has been serving as a mediator and arbitrator and Rule 53 special master in El Paso County for over 20 years. His experience includes cases involving large assets and complex asset as well as contested custody cases. His 40 plus years of experience as an attorney includes serving as a GAL in high conflict custody case and representing clients from all walks of life-from pro bono clients to clients with large and small marital estates. As a former district court magistrate he has the experience of trying domestic relations cases and making the difficult decisions those cases often require.

Mr. Johnson's service includes: District Court Magistrate in the Fourth Judicial District from 1995-1997; member of the Executive Council of the Colorado Bar Association Family Law Section from 1992-1998 and from 2002-2008; Chair of the Family Law Section of the CBA in 2006-2007; former member of the Legislative Policy Committee of the Colorado Bar Association; former member of the Colorado Supreme Court's Standing Committee on Family Law Issues and the Subcommittee for Revisions of Rule 16.2; past member of the Supreme Court Committee on Ethical Issues in Family Law. He served as the 2009-2010 President of the Colorado Bar Association.

Mr. Johnson currently serves on the Supreme Court Attorney Regulation Committee; the Board of Directors of CASA of the Pikes Peak Region; the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado; the El Paso County Bar Foundation; and the Colorado Springs Municipal Court Nominating Committee.

Mr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and is named in The Best Lawyers in America. He is the author of several articles on family law issues and has done numerous CLE presentations for the El Paso County Bar Association, the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the Colorado Bar Association. He received the prestigious ICON Award from the Colorado Bar Association Family Law Section in 2014.

Mr. Johnson served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Notre Dame and is a past President of the Notre Dame Alumni Board (1996-2000). He is a past chair of the Board of Directors of the Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence, now TESSA, (1988-1994). He served on the Board of Directors of Colorado CASA (1998-2000). He also was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Marshall Islands from 1971-1973.
